Discovering Your Calling
Last month on her television show, Oprah Winfrey talked about discovering your calling and passion. “Do you know what your calling is? Every person on earth has one – something unique, something only you were born to do. ‘That’s your real job, to figure out what is your calling and then begin to honor it,” Oprah says.
On this particular show she had three main guests, Genevieve Piturro; the Pajama Lady, John Wood; the Literacy Guy and Barbara Franklin the Coupon Queen.
In her 30’s, Genevieve Piturro made it her life’s mission to donate tens of thousands of pajamas to children all over the country in group homes and shelters, when she realized that these children went to bed in their regular clothes.
Genevieve told Oprah that no matter how many pairs of pajamas she provided, more were always needed. So, Oprah challenged her audience one-week prior to this episode to donate pajamas but there was one catch, each audience member could only purchase one pair, all other pairs donated must be from getting others involved. Her audience helped donate a total of 32,046 pairs of pajamas! Wow!
John Wood used to be a bigwig at Microsoft who was worth millions and living a life of luxury until he went on vacation to Nepal and saw first hand how children were living without books, causing a literacy problem around the world.
John made it his passion to provide books to children around the world written in their native language. He even went as far as quitting his prestigious job at Microsoft to aid his cause full time. John’s friends and colleagues thought that he was crazy for giving up so much and thought that he might be going through a mid-life crisis. John said in response, "… 'Wouldn't it be a crisis to not follow my heart and not follow my passion?'"
“So far, John and his team [of volunteers] have distributed almost 3 million children's books, constructed 287 schools, established 3,600 libraries and funded more than 2,000 long-term scholarships for girls in third-world countries.” What passion!
Barbara Franklin discovered that by collecting coupons and taking advantage of double and triple coupon days at grocery stores, she could save lots of money. In one example she said, “[Once] my bill was $187, but when I finished [using coupons], I paid $3.02," she says.
Then Barbara took this savings to another level and purchased food with the coupons to donate to impoverished members of her community. Now, Barbara runs a food pantry and feeds 1,500 families per month!

At the Quantum Healing Center we realize that many people in our community have a passion too, and want to help make a difference. This is the very reason we have decided to create this healing community. There is no part too small. It is our mission to make a difference and to create a place where we can give and receive support, and help support others spiritually through healing and learning. What is your passion? Join us with passion! Have you asked yourself, “How can I help?” “How can I make a difference? “What is my passion?” “What is my calling?” And maybe the Quantum Healing Center can be a place for you to fulfill your purpose?
